After trailing by a goal at the break, Germany rallied to beat Sweden 2-1 in extra time on Oct. 12 and captured its first Women's World Cup championship in Carson, Calif.

Sweden took the lead when Hanna Ljungberg scored in the 41st minute, but Germany equalized on Maren Meinert's 46th-minute strike.

Both teams pushed hard for the game-winner, and German sub Nia Kuenzer finally scored the title-clinching golden goal in the 98th minute. [+]
