Francesco Totti is considering coming out of international retirement for this summer's World Cup.

Totti, who was an integral part of the Azzurri's world cup winning team four years ago, may come out of the wilderness for a final swan song in South Africa.

Italy coach Marcelo Lippi is understood to be keen to reinstate Totti to strengthen a side looking to be the first to retain the World Cup since Brazil in 1962.

The 33-year-old, who quit international football in 2007, said: "Lifting the World Cup (in 2006) was one of the best feelings in the world. I don't know if I will return because I still haven't spoken to Marcello Lippi.

"I will also have to evaluate my physical condition. Then we need to see if the group wants me."

Totti has won 58 caps for his country but is currently struggling with tendonitis in his right knee. He is hoping to be fit in time for Roma's clash with Serie A leaders Inter Milan on March 31.
