England captain scandal

Terry summoned to Wembley

February 4, 2010
By Harry Harris, Football Correspondent

John Terry will be summoned to the Wembley offices of Fabio Capello to discuss his future face-to-face with the England manager, who refuses to try to find a 'safe and secret' location to avoid any embarrassment for the current England captain.

Capello is sure to insist that the unprecedented meeting occurs inside the privacy of his Wembley office, but the word from inside the FA is that Capello is not for any clandestine approach to avoid the media pack.

An FA insider told Soccernet: "Fabio has nothing to hide from, his offices are at Wembley and the only logical way to resolve this issue is a face-to-face meeting."

Capello arrived at Heathrow airport on Thursday, and went home to Knightsbridge, followed all the way by the media, declining to comment about Terry.

He will be well briefed by his trusted aid Franco Baldini on Friday before seeing Terry and will also speak with FA chief executive Ian Watmore and chairman Lord Triesman. The FA will provide Capello with the authority, as he has always had, of deciding issues that affect the England team.

That doesn't necessarily mean that there will be any meaningful outcome though, as Capello might wish to think about it more as he doesn't need to name a captain until March 3 for the next match against Egypt.

Many expect a statement on Friday, with the FA apparently keen to resolve the issue before the Italian flies out to Poland for the draw for the 2012 European Championship qualifiers on Sunday.
