West Ham striker Dean Ashton is expected to officially announce his retirement from professional football by the end of this week. The 25-year-old has not played a first-team game for 14 months after struggling to fully recover from an ankle injury suffered at England training in August 2006. [+]

One step forward, two steps back; there is denying this was a desperately disappointing result against a side who always seem to do us at home . That's bad enough, but, like last season, the result was a travesty as the Hammers deserved something from a game they dominated for long periods.
