CARSON, Calif. - Alejandro Moreno's go-ahead goal led the Los Angeles Galaxy of the MLS past the amateur Fresno Fuego 3-1 in the U.S. Open Cup Wednesday night.Los Angeles advances to the quarterfinals at the A-League's Seattle Sounders on Aug. 27.
Fresno was the last amateur team in the tournament.
Moreno broke a 1-1 tie in the 33rd minute. Fuego goalkeeper Jeremy Proud blocked Moreno's header from the right side of the goal crease, but Moreno secured the rebound and converted a 12-yard diagonal shot from the same spot.
Paul Broome finished the scoring with a minute left.
Eddie Gutierrez gave the Fuego a 1-0 lead with a 13-yard shot in the 23rd minute. The Galaxy's Arturo Torres tied the score two minutes later with a 10-yard shot.
The Galaxy's Peter Vagenas had a penalty kick blocked six minutes before halftime.
Los Angeles defender Ryan Suarez strained a hamstring muscle and left the game in the 39th minute.
