Jason Dodd signed off as caretaker manager of Aldershot by guiding them into the second round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over Bury.

Goals from Louie Soares and Scott Donnelly gave Dodd his sole victory since taking the Recreation Ground hot seat three weeks ago.

The Shots were on top from the off and took a deserved lead in the 14th minute when a Kirk Hudson's low cross was buried by Soares.

Bury's best chance in the first half came when Ritchie Baker sliced a chance wide after half an hour.

And he was punished two minutes later as Shots doubled their lead when Donnelly conjured an impressive solo goal.

Pouncing on a loose ball, he skipped majestically past two challenges at the heart of Bury's defence and lifted the ball over Brown.

In the second half, Aldershot were able to soak up the pressure and play on the counter attack. Hudson was provider on the break again, but this time Soares poked harmlessly wide.

In the dying seconds of the match, Bury's Stephen Dawson sliced a gilt-edged opportunity wide, bringing the Shakers nine-match unbeaten run to an end.
