Aaron O'Connor hit a superb double as Rushden & Diamonds ran out 3-1 winners against Hinckley at Nene Park.

O'Connor opened the scoring against the run of play before putting Diamonds back in front just two minutes after Adam Webster had equalised for the visitors.

Webster should have put Hinckley ahead when he was through on goal after nine minutes but his weak shot was easily saved by Nathan Abbey in the Rushden goal.

And the Conference North side were made to pay when the home side opened the scoring with their first attempt on goal after 31 minutes. O'Connor saw off a challenge from Paul Lister before coolly curling his shot past Chris MacKenzie.

Hinckley equalised in the 64th minute when Webster headed home Alex Taylor's cross from close range.

But Justin Edinburgh's side hit back just two minutes later when O'Connor latched on to a long ball before beating two defenders and hitting a left-foot shot past MacKenzie.

And 20-year-old Mark Byrne - on-loan from Nottingham Forest - sealed the win with eight minutes left on the clock when he met Danny Mills' through ball before lobbing MacKenzie.
