A goal by Manuel Arana in the fifth minute of injury-time earned Racing Santander a 1-1 draw after Walter Pandiani appeared to have guided Osasuna to victory in the Primera Division.Pandiani struck eight minutes after half-time for his third goal in two games following his double against Atletico Madrid last time out and with just seconds to go Osasuna were on the brink of their second away win.
However, Aruna struck to earn a vital point for the hosts who had been in the ascendancy for most of the game.
Racing started the match in 15th, just one point above the drop zone, but they could take heart from their last outing when they came from two goals down to score twice in the last 10 minutes for a draw at Real Zaragoza.
The hosts started well and made the first forays forward, both Pedro Munitis and Francisco Punal shooting from distance, although neither troubled the goalkeeper.
Christian Fernandez was on target for Racing, his shot saved by Ricardo and the Osasuna keeper was forced to punch clear from Oscar Serrano as the hosts dominated the attack.
Miguel Flano sent a shot wide for Osasuna before Racing keeper Antonio Tono saved Javier Camunas' 20-yard shot as the visitors attempted to come back into the game.
Tchite was again denied by Ricardo before Javad Nekounam was forced to block from Luis Garcia's shot as Racing desperately sought for an opening.
However, the half ended goalless with Osasuna no doubt relieved to have weathered the storm and Racing frustrated not to have converted their domination into goals.
There was little action at the start of the second half although it appeared to be the hosts who would once again be behind any attacking action.
So, it was a shock when Pandiani opened the scoring for Osasuna in the 53rd minute.
Carlos Aranda sent in a corner from the right and the former Espanyol and Deportivo La Coruna player buried a right-footed shot into the goal.
There were four bookings in five minutes for Osasuna as they appeared on the brink of losing control and the play was broken up with Racing unable to create any meaningful passages of play.
Mohammed Tchite shot from distance but Osasuna threatened to double their lead, Shojaei Massoud sending in a close-range header from Punal's corner with 20 minutes to go.
Nacho Monreal then hit a right-footed shot which was cleared by Fernandez.
Oscar Serrano sent in a right-footed shot with five minutes to go which Ricardo saved and the same player sent in two corners which were both cleared.
The hosts were running out of time and they were forcing little of note.
Oscar Serrano was at the centre of anything positive for Racing, deep into injury time sending a shot over the bar.
All seemed lost but then came the dramatic intervention from Arana, who converted Xisco's pass with a low shot in the fifth minute of injury-time to claim a vital equaliser.
