Marseille moved up to fourth in Ligue 1 as Gabriel Heinze's first-half header earned them a narrow win over fierce rivals Paris St Germain at the Stade Velodrome tonight. The Argentinian stole in to head home Fabrice Abriel's free-kick in the 25th minute and settle the rearranged fixture.
The original game, which was scheduled for October 25, was delayed after three PSG players were struck down with swine flu.
And the capital club's position hardly looks any healthier tonight after their fourth defeat of the campaign left them 13th in the standings.
The home side wasted little time in gaining the upper hand, Laurent Bonnart making ground down the right in the second minute and crossing for Mamadou Niang, whose header was saved by Gregory Coupet.
Heinze sent another header over the top before PSG had their first sight of goal, Christophe Jallet testing Marseille keeper Steve Mandanda with a 30-yard free-kick.
The south coast side took the lead in the 25th minute when Heinze did well to nip between team-mate Souleymane Diawara and a defender and head Abriel's free-kick past a surprised Coupet.
PSG came close to levelling before the break when Mevlud Erding received Jallet's free-kick on the edge of the six-yard box and turned before shooting right-footed towards the bottom right corner, but Mandanda stretched to save.
Niang went even closer at the other end in the 40th minute as Coupet deflected his effort from the edge of the area on to the bar.
The home side posed the greater threat after the break too.
Benoit Cheyrou fired in a fierce shot which Coupet could not hold before defender Marcos Ceara cleared the ball off the feet of Niang before he could get in a follow-up effort.
Abriel's free-kick then made its way to Brandao at the back post, but his shot went inches wide as Marseille had to make do with one.
