Loic Remy netted a second-half penalty as Nice edged out Toulouse to leapfrog their mid-table opponents in the Ligue 1 standings.

Remy slotted home in the 51st minute after Toulouse defender Cheikh M'Bengue was harshly adjudged to have handled in the area.

Toulouse almost grabbed an equaliser in the final minute but home keeper David Ospina pulled off a stunning save to deny France international Andre-Pierre Gignac.

Nice threatened first, Anthony Mounier shrugging off the attention of Albin Ebondo but shooting over the bar.

Toulouse responded with Moussa Sissoko playing in Gignac but he shot wide when well placed.

Nice almost opened the scoring after 11 minutes but Toulouse keeper Olivier Blondel pulled off a stunning save to deny Mounier.

The visitors finished the half on the front foot but they couldn't find a way past Ospina.

First, Gignac saw a drive well gathered before the Colombian keeper acrobatically punched clear a blistering free-kick from Paulo Machado.

Toulouse also started the second period well.

Gignac, who was impressive, wriggled clear from defenders Onyekachi Apam and Larrys Mabiala but again saw his shot smothered by Ospina.

Having spent such a long period on the back foot, Nice promptly went up the other end and took the lead and they could have made it 2-0 after 57 minutes.

Remy crossed for Mamadou Bagayoko but his header came back off the post.

Toulouse pressed as the half went on but didn't create a chance of note until the final minute when Ospina again came to Nice's rescue.
