Lille shocked Ligue 1 leaders Bordeaux as two late goals gave them a deserved victory this afternoon. The reigning champions have been in great form and booked their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League with two games to spare in midweek.
But they were off the pace today and goals from Yohan Cabaye and Florent Balmont in the last 21 minutes gave Lille the points.
The hosts came close to an opener in the 10th minute when Gervinho picked up the ball 18 yards out and held off Michael Ciani before firing in a shot that just cleared the bar.
The visitors hit back through Yoann Gourcuff but Mickael Landreau got behind his 20-yard effort.
Cabaye then combined with Pierre-Alain Frau before shooting from 12 yards, forcing keeper Cedric Carrasso into an excellent save.
Landreau had to be alert to nick the ball off the toes of Marouane Chamakh but it was Lille who finished the first half the stronger, Cabaye testing Carrasso with a fierce free-kick.
The second half was one-way traffic as Lille poured forward in search of the breakthrough.
In the 57th minute, Eden Hazard released Frau but the striker sent his shot the wrong side of the post with only Carrasso to beat.
Moments later Gervinho found himself in a similar situation but he took too long and eventually missed the target with his close-range effort.
The lively striker then set up Frau for a volley that again failed to test Carrasso.
The home side must have been frustrated by their failure to turn their dominance into goals but they could finally celebrate in the 69th minute and Gervinho was the architect again.
His run and cross set up Frau, whose close-range volley was parried by Carrasso straight to Cabaye, who could not miss.
And the points were secured four minutes from time when Ciani fouled Larsen Toure in the box and Balmont scored the penalty.
