A late equaliser from Notts County captain Graeme Lee secured a 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury and spared new manager Hans Backe's blushes. The centre-back rose highest at the far post to head home Luke Rodgers' cross with five minutes remaining
Shrews' on-loan winger Jamie Devitt had opened the scoring after 30 minutes, calmly slotting past Kasper Schmeichel after being picked out in the box by Dean Holden.
The Magpies struggled in the first half but created plenty of chances after the interval, only to denied by the heroics of goalkeeper Steve Phillips.
Phillips punched clear Rodgers' stinging effort, blocked a close-range Lee Hughes strike with his legs and kept out Ade Akinbiyi's turn and shot.
Shrewsbury, who had lost three of their last four outings, also had chances to win with Dave Hibbert's diving header forcing Schmeichel into a full-length save and his follow-up volley being cleared off the line by Lee.
