Pierre Webo scored twice in a six-minute spell as Cameroon beat Austria 2-0 in a friendly on
Wednesday to give a winning debut to Paul Le Guen, their third coach this year.
The Indomitable Lions were given a let-off in the 13th
minute of the game in Klagenfurt when Austria captain Paul
Scharner missed a penalty, his weak effort being saved by Carlos
Kameni.
Cameroon went ahead in the 28th minute when Somen Tchoyi
burst down the left, the Austria defence failed to cut out his
pass and Webo rolled the ball into the empty net.
The Real Mallorca player struck again in the 34th minute to
complete a good start for Frenchman Le Guen, who last month
replaced former Cameroon international Thomas Nkono in the hot
seat.
Nkono had been in charge since German Otto Pfister resigned
in May.
The result is a morale-booster for Cameroon, who face an
uphill struggle to qualify for next year's World Cup in South
Africa.
The four-times African champions are bottom of their group
in the final stage of the African qualifiers with one point from
two games, five behind leaders Gabon. Only the winners qualify.
