KANSAS CITY, Kansas (AP) -- Amado Guevara scored twice in the second half, leading Toronto FC to a 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Wizards in the teams' season opener Saturday night.Jim Brennan also scored in Toronto's first win against the Wizards, which came despite two thundering goals by Kansas City's Davy Arnaud. Toronto, an expansion team in 2007, had scored only once in the teams' six previous matches.
That goal came in a 1-1 draw on September 1, 2007; last season, Kansas City went 2-0-1 against Toronto, outscoring the Reds 4-0 over three matches.
Guevara's first goal came in the 53rd minute. He took Carl Robinson's pass at the edge of the penalty area, spun in front of defender Jonathan Leathers and fired past keeper Kevin Hartman into the upper right corner of the goal.
Arnaud's 25-yard blast got the Wizards within 2-1 in the 56th minute, but Guevara struck back in the 62nd to restore Toronto's two-goal cushion. Arnaud scored from 22 yards in the 76th minute, closing the gap to 3-2.
Toronto missed a chance to ice the game when Dwayne De Rosario put a penalty kick over the crossbar in the 80th minute, after a handball call against Michael Harrington.
Brennan put the Reds up 1-0 in the 33rd minute, sending a left-footed shot just inside the near post from 7 yards.
Hartman had five saves and needs one more to tie Tony Meola's MLS career record of 1,136.
