Torquay striker Tim Sills scored twice as the Conference high-flyers marched in the second round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 victory over Non-League minnows Evesham.

Sills was the star of the show for the Gulls, scoring in either half as Paul Buckle's men extended their winning sequence to 13 games in all competitions - their best run of results since 1991.

Sills opened the scoring after 27 minutes - firing home from close range following a Kevin Nicholson corner - much to Evesham's frustrations.

Evesham goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan ensured Torquay didn't run away with the tie in the opening 45 minutes, making a succession of saves as the Gulls began to turn up the pressure.

Sills tested Vaughan again on 66 minutes as Torquay desperately pressed for the killer second goal but once again the Evesham goalkeeper rode to his side's rescue.

Two minutes later Evesham missed a golden chance to get back level when Danny Scheppel dragged a penalty wide after Steve Woods had been penalised for handball.

Vaughan was eventually beaten for a second time with just 15 minutes remaining as Sills took his goal's tally for the season to 11 with a smart finish.

Nicky Wroe was prominent in the move, crossing for Sills who made no mistake from close range.

Sills had a late chance to grab a deserved hat trick but the striker failed to hit the target with Vaughan beaten.
