Nathan Ellington struck deep into stoppage-time to deny Charlton a first victory in 13 attempts as Derby claimed a dramatic 2-2 draw.

The striker grabbed his second of the game in the 95th minute as Paul Jewell's Derby ended their goal drought on the road in dramatic fashion.

Andy Gray had put the hosts ahead in the first half, but Ellington hauled Derby level from the penalty spot.

On-loan Sunderland teenager Martyn Waghorn thought he had earned the Addicks an elusive victory with his first career goal.

But the hosts could not hang on and Ellington's late, late goal left caretaker boss Phil Parkinson still looking for his first win in charge.

Until Ellington's first strike Jewell's side had not scored on the road in the league since October, and their travel sickness will not have been helped by having to take the Woolwich ferry across the Thames due to heavy traffic.

Life is hardly plain sailing for Charlton, either, but they at least lifted themselves off the foot of the Coca-Cola Championship with a vastly-improved display.

Unlike in recent weeks, Charlton were up for the challenge from the first whistle and were backed by a vociferous Valley crowd.

They came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock in the 28th minute when Przemyslaw Kazmierczak took a swing and a miss in the penalty area to allow Lloyd Sam through on goal, but the winger's angled drive thudded against the near post.

The lively Waghorn then showed Kazmierczak a clean pair of heels on the byline, but his shot went straight at Stephen Bywater.

The opening goal came in the 34th minute when Sam held the ball up well in the corner before laying it off to Jose Semedo, whose first-time cross was expertly controlled by Gray and tucked past Bywater from close range.

Hameur Bouazza fluffed a gilt-edged chance for the second when he was cleverly put through by Waghorn, only to blast his shot high and wide.

He was almost made to pay immediately as Luke Varney, who joined Derby from Charlton last month, charged forward and forced a fine save from Rob Elliot with a low shot.

Bywater made a double save to keep out Bouazza and Sam to keep the Rams in the game before midfielder Gary Teale thought he had equalised, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

Derby did pull level in the 62nd minute after Semedo handled in the penalty area and referee Andy D'Urso pointed to the spot, allowing Ellington to step up and cheekily roll the ball inside the post.

But Charlton went back ahead barely a minute later when Sam burst clear down the right, turned inside and fed Waghorn, whose shot deflected off Paul Connolly on its way into an empty net.

But the Addicks suffered heartbreak when Ellington swept the ball home inside the area to secure a point.
