Wolfsburg twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against AC Milan and seal top spot in UEFA Cup Group E.The Wolves entered the game at the San Siro with a 100% record in the pool phase but went behind after a Massimo Ambrosini header in the first half.
Italy international Cristian Zaccardo pulled the German outfit level after the break but Wolfsburg's joy was shortlived as Alexandre Pato scored seconds later to put the hosts back in front.
Wolfsburg's efforts were rewarded as Jacek Krzynowek's strike took a crucial deflection off Mahir Saglik to level the score with nine minutes remaining and consign Milan to second in the group.
The hosts suffered an early setback with Kakha Kaladze replacing an injured Philippe Senderos.
Christian Gentner then had a shot blocked by Dida but at the other end Gianluca Zambrotta's effort was saved by Diego Benaglio.
Milan broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when Clarence Seedorf's corner to the far post found Ambrosini, whose powerful header beat Benaglio.
Wolfsburg surged forward in search of the equaliser and almost succeeded in the 26th minute.
Edin Dzeko's header from Marcel Schafer's assist beat Dida but rebounded off the crossbar.
Gentner was next to threaten Milan with his stinging drive from outside the area forcing Dida into a good save.
On the half-hour mark, Benaglio did well to anticipate Shevchenko, who was ready to cement Milan's advantage.
The visitors suffered a blow with Gentner having to come off through injury before the interval.
In the second half, Dida saved well from Dzeko's powerful effort from distance.
But Dida could do little to prevent Wolfsburg's equaliser.
Schafer's cross into the area from the left found Zaccardo, who slotted past Dida with a right-footed strike.
Wolfsburg's joy was shortlived, however, as Milan struck back instantly.
Seedorf served Filippo Inzaghi, who found Pato inside the heart of the area and the Brazilian's right-footed shot went into the back of the net.
That was not the end of the scoring action, though.
Shortly after, Dida could do nothing as Krzynowek's powerful left-footed strike was diverted by Saglik into the back of the net.
