PORTO, Portugal, Oct 21 (Reuters) - Olexander Aliyev struck midway through the first half to give Dynamo Kiev a 1-0 away win against Porto in their Champions League Group G match on Tuesday.
While Dynamo recorded their first Champions League win in 16
games, Aliyev's goal snapped Porto's unbeaten home run in
Europe's premier team competition that had stretched back to 11
games.Dynamo moved up to second place in the group with five
points from three matches, two behind leaders Arsenal who
thrashed Fenerbahce 5-2.Aliyev broke the deadlock in the 27th minute with a
powerful free kick that curled in at the far post."We are very happy because it has been a long time without
an away win in Europe. After we went ahead, we lost control of
the match but secured the advantage and we are very happy,"
Dynamo coach Yuri Syomin told reporters."We still have two games at home (against Porto and
Fenerbahce) and after this victory we believe even more that we
can qualify."Porto tried their best to draw level but they were foiled by
Dynamo's well organised defence.Striker Hulk could have equalised in the dying minutes but
his header flew over the bar."I am very sad but we are still determined to qualify. We
will now be aiming to win our next two ties (against Kiev and
Fenerbahce)," Porto coach Jesualdo Ferreira told Portuguese TV.
