Champions Real Madrid lost 3-1 at Getafe in the Primera Liga on Saturday and saw their extensive injury list grow even longer.

Getafe's Juan Albin scored at the beginning of each half and set up Ikechukwu Uche for the third near the end, after Real had briefly threatened a comeback with a Javier Saviola strike.

Having started the day with seven first-team regulars out injured, Real coach Bernd Schuster was forced to make two first-half substitutions when Wesley Sneijder and Miguel Torres left the pitch with injury problems.

"Getafe were much better. They played a spectacular game and the scoreline flatters us," Schuster said.

"We have a lot of players injured but we could do nothing. From the first moment I saw it would be difficult for us...and I never had the sensation we would win."

Real stay second with 26 points from 13 games, three behind leaders Barcelona who visit Sevilla in Saturday's late game (2100).

Getafe's second home win of the season moved them up to ninth with 17 points.

Third-placed Villarreal, with 25 points, visit bottom club Recreativo Huelva on Sunday.

Real were trailing from the third minute, when Jaime Gavilan's run and cross from the left was met by a powerful header from Uruguayan forward Albin.

Missing Fabio Cannavaro, Arjen Robben and Ruud van Nistelrooy, the visitors struggled to respond and when Dutch midfielder Sneijder was carried off with a muscle injury, they lost one of their most effective players.

The home side were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty just before the break but two minutes after the re-start Albin broke away to surprise Iker Casillas at his near post.

Guti laid on Argentine Saviola to pull one back after an error in the home defence in the 55th minute but their resistance did not last long.

Getafe pulled them apart on counter-attacks, and hit the woodwork twice, before Albin squared for Nigeria striker Uche on the counter in the 82nd to end Real's vague hopes of a comeback.
