Liam Buchanan struck a dramatic penalty winner to keep Partick Thistle's title hopes alive in a 1-0 victory against Livingston.

The game looked to be heading for a stalemate until Liam Fox was penalised for handball and substitute Buchanan held his nerve to send Roddy McKenzie the wrong way.

Neither side created any genuine chances during a scrappy opening period.

However, the Jags almost broke the deadlock in fortuitous circumstances when Danny Griffin's attempted clearance rebounded off David Rowson and looped goalward.

The ball was bound for the net until the back-tracking McKenzie managed to tip it over his bar.

Livingston went even closer on the stroke of half-time when Tony McParland's free kick was brilliantly tipped over by Jonny Tuffey.

It was Thistle's turn to threaten on the restart when Scott Chaplain headed narrowly wide from Marc Twaddle's cross.

At the other end Cameron MacDonald and Leigh Griffiths saw shots saved by Tuffey as the visitors looked to kill off Thistle's fading promotion hopes.

Instead Buchanan kept them firmly alive with his last ditch penalty.
