Berwick slumped to their third successive defeat after losing 2-1 at home to Dumbarton in a controversial clash.

Referee Thomas Robertson sent off home debutant Fraser Forrest within 10 minutes of his arrival as a substitute for a second bookable offence as Rangers battled to find an equaliser.

The home side started well forcing The Sons` goalkeeper Dave McEwan to save from Robbie Horn and Graham Guy. Nevertheless, deadly Dumbarton took the lead from their first attack. Paul McLeod cashed in as Rangers` defender Horn lay injured to send a clever lob past the stranded Ryan McGurk.

A powerful 25-yard shot from skipper Stuart Callaghan brought an equaliser, but more defensive indecision cost Rangers dearly in the 43rd minute when Derek Carcary cut inside and beat McGurk with a low shot.

The home team gave a spirited second-half display but McEwan foiled them with a tremendous saves from Fraser McLaren and Darren Gribben.

Steven Bonar wasted a fine chance from close range but right on time Dumbarton's McLeod wasted an opportunity to put the result beyond doubt as he missed an open goal.

As the clock ticked down Berwick began collecting bookings with Bonar and Callaghan cautioned for dissent, John Dillon and Jamie Ewart for fouls, and the unfortunate Forrest for his two indiscretions five minutes from the end.
