Rene Howe's solitary goal was enough for Morecambe to earn their first win of the season - and end Shrewsbury`s unbeaten start.
The Shrimps took the lead within five minutes when Howe latched onto a superb long-range pass from Stuart Drummond to direct his shot beyond the outreaching arms of Luke Daniels between the posts - and that proved to be the game`s only goal.
Striker Grant Holt could have brought the teams level soon after but saw his right-footed effort easily caught by Morecambe's Barry Roche.
But Sammy McIlroy's men could have extended their advantage when Gary Hunter`s fine run down the right-hand side ended with a cross which found Diarmuid O'Carroll who saw his shot glaze the top of the crossbar.
The Shrimps were in the ascendancy and but for a great block by defender Ben Herd just after the half hour mark from a Neil Wainwright shot could have all but secured the victory.
After the break a refreshed Shrewsbury could have had two goals in two minutes when Holt saw his long-range effort blocked by Ryan McCann before Shane Cansdell-Sherriff drilled his strike straight into the welcoming arms of Barry.
In worsening weather conditions Morecambe rode the storm well and went close again through the impressive Howe whose volley went just wide of the left-hand post.
Shrewsbury could have got an equaliser late on when a testing shot by Dave Hibbert stung the fingers of Roche.
However, Morecambe continued to frustrate Paul Simpson's men and could have secured the points when O'Carroll saw his close-range effort saved by Daniels.
