Second-half goals from Sean O'Connor and John Stewart saw Queen of the South book their place in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 win at Morton.

The visitors could have gone in front in the 13th minute when David McGurn dived full-length to save Stevie Tosh's shot and Kevin Finlayson cleared before Stephen Dobbie could net the rebound.

Morton could have taken the lead 12 minutes later, though, were it not for a stunning save by Jamie McDonald at the end of a good move.

Peter Weatherson began the move by slipping the ball to his right to Chris Millar, and Weatherson then met his low cross with a diving header which McDonald somehow turned over the crossbar.

Queens had a glorious chance to edge in front a minute before half-time when Tosh was unmarked 12 yards out after O'Connor set him up, but he hooked the ball wide.

There was no reprieve for Morton, though, as 58 seconds into the second half Bob Harris swung over a corner from the right to the back post for O'Connor to head past McGurn.

And substitute Stewart sealed victory three minutes from time when he netted from close range after Ryan McCann's shot had been pushed out.
