West Ham striker Marlon Harewood came off the bench to score a late winner against Arsenal as tempers frayed at Upton Park where rival managers Alan Pardew and Arsene Wenger were involved in a shoving match on the touchline.

Robin van Persie also appeared to be hit by a coin thrown from the crowd during the first half of a pulsating game, which ended with Wenger refusing to shake Pardew's hand.

Tomas Rosicky and van Persie had the visitors' best opportunities but, like their Champions League clash the previous Tuesday, could not find the finishing touch.

The Gunners will also point to a penalty appeal when Jonathan Spector brought down Alexandre Hleb in the area.

Van Persie, who was constantly jeered by home fans, appeared to be struck by a coin just before the break and he was eventually substituted in the second half.

Harewood was put clean through by fellow substitute Teddy Sheringham as full-time approached but the striker, last season's top scorer, saw his powerful drive saved by Jen Lehmann.

But when a draw appeared likely, Harewood finished from close range after Matthew Etherington had won the ball in midfield, exchanged passes with Sheringham and curled in a superb cross as West Ham secured back-to-back Premiership wins.

The striker was booked for taking his shirt off as he celebrated, while on the touchline Wenger took exception to Pardew's celebrations and pushed him away bfore refusing to shake hands after the final whistle.

The unseemly episode continues the feud between the rival bosses, with Wenger accusing his Hammers counterpart of racism last season following Pardew's comments about the number of foreign players in Arsenal's squad.
