SALT LAKE CITY -- Real Salt Lake forward Jeff Cunningham missed what looked like a sure goal in the first minute, and Real got no better opportunity the rest of the way in a 0-0 tie with Chivas USA on Tuesday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
It was the sixth game in a row that Chivas USA (6-5-5) has earned a least a point. The team has two wins and four ties since its last loss, to Dallas in early June.
For Real Salt Lake (3-8-4), it was another tie for a team that has lost three of its last four. The team is on the road for its next two games, at Los Angeles and New England.
Real Salt Lake had U.S. national team member Eddie Pope back from the World Cup, but he was substituted out at the half for defender Nelson Akwari. Pope, who is nursing a bad back, was listed as probable before the game.
The home team made it interesting in the closing minutes, as both Jason Kreis and Jamie Watson, a late substitute, had good chances against goalkeeper Preston Burpo, who leads the league in goals-against average.
Chivas had a free kick from dead center in the 88th minute, but it sailed wide past Real Salt Lake goalie Scott Garlick.
