CARSON, Calif. - Jacob Peterson scored his first professional goal and Bouna Coundoul earned his first shutout to lead the Colorado Rapids over the Los Angeles Galaxy 1-0 on Saturday night. The Galaxy (2-6-1), the defending MLS champions, extended their longest losing streak in four years to four games and their record scoreless run to 390 consecutive minutes.
The Rapids (3-3-1) earned their second victory in three games.
Peterson, a rookie from Indiana University, scored in the 14th minute. Peterson secured Eric Denton's pass, beat defender Tyrone Marshall and converted a 9-yard diagonal shot inside the right post.
''He really did the hard part by putting it in my path,'' Peterson said of Denton. ''Eric obviously has a great left foot. I just had to finish it.''
Coundoul, making his first professional start, finished with five saves. The native of Senegal made his best save in the 54th minute on a diving, two-hand block of Kyle Martino's 8-yard shot off Todd Dunivant's back-heel pass.
''I'm capable of doing big stuff,'' Coundoul said. ''I had confidence in myself and the coaches trusted me. They said, 'Just play the way you've been playing in practice and in reserve games.'''
Coundoul made his MLS debut May 13, when he replaced injured starter Joe Cannon in the 10th minute at Columbus.
