Airdrie leapfrogged Queen of the South in the league table with a fully-deserved 2-0 victory. The home side opened the scoring after 31 minutes through Owen Coyle's close-range header.
The visitors should have equalised within three minutes but Brian McLoughlin fluffed his lines on two occasions.
Queen of the South looked more threatening after the restart but were guilty of profligacy all game.
South were made to pay 16 minutes from time when Alan Gow's classy curling finish confirmed a home win.
