Newell returns to management with Grimsby

Mike Newell has been unveiled as the new Grimsby manager.

Newell succeeds Alan Buckley, who was sacked last month, at the Coca-Cola League Two club.

The 43-year-old former Hartlepool and Luton boss has been out of work since he was sacked by the Hatters in March 2007.

"The directors are delighted with this appointment of this forward-thinking manager,'' said Grimsby chairman John Fenty.

"It is now hoped that the fans and everybody associated with the club all get behind him.''

The Mariners are currently fourth bottom in League Two.
