Booth wins South African recall to squad

JOHANNESBURG, Aug 27 (Reuters) - Russia-based defender Matthew Booth has won a recall to the South Africa squad for the first time in three years, being named for a World Cup qualifier against Nigeria next month.

Booth, from FC Krylya Sovetov Samara, was included in a 24-man squad on Wednesday by coach Joel Santana for the African zone Group Four match in Port Elizabeth on Sept. 6.

The last of Booth's 15 caps was won against Zambia in 2005. He comes in for South Africa captain Aaron Mokoena, who is suspended for the match.

South Africa, who host the 2010 World Cup finals, are participating in the preliminaries because they also serve to determine the 16 finalists for the next African Nations Cup.

South Africa must beat Nigeria to have any chance of maintaining their hopes of qualifying for Angola 2010.
