Palermo surgery successful, say Boca Juniors

Boca Juniors are staying optimistic about Martin Palermo's playing future after the veteran striker underwent surgery on torn cruciate knee ligaments.

The 34-year-old suffered the injury to his right knee in the Apertura victory over Lanus at the weekend and will miss the rest of the season.

Boca club doctor, Gustavo Liotta, said: 'We can be optimistic about a quick recovery. It will take at least six months but I have no doubt everything will be all right because of his will and mentality.

'He is an excellent patient so he will recover quickly. The two ligaments were repaired successfully.
