HAMBURG, October 28 (Bundesliga) - Mladen Petric is confident Hamburg will make amends for Sunday's setback at Hoffenheim when they host Stuttgart on Wednesday night. The northerners were thrashed 3-0 at the Bundesliga surprise package, who, with the win, moved to the top of the table.
"We completely failed as a team,'' Petric admitted. "It was tough to lose like that. But I am sure we will get back up. We will show our true character (against Stuttgart).''
Coach Martin Jol will be forced to replace a string of key players, though, with Thimothee Atouba (Achilles), Marcell Jansen (thigh), Nigel de Jong (knee), Paolo Guerrero (calf), Romeo Castelen and Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting (both knee surgery) all out.
On a positive note, Brazilian star Thiago Neves has overcome a thigh injury and could start.
Stuttgart, the 2007 Bundesliga champions, come into the game on the back of a 2-0 home win over Bochum which lifted them up to fourth in the standings.
"It wasn't a pretty match but we won and that is all that matters,'' said Germany striker Mario Gomez.
Another victory on Wednesday night would enable Armin Veh's men to move past Hamburg in the table.
"Hamburg are one of the favourites for a top-place finish in every competition,'' Veh said.
"They are playing very well and it will not be easy. I am sure they will try to make up for the loss at Hoffenheim.''
Jan Simak and Yildiray Basturk are on the injury list for the visitors.
