BREMEN, October 27 (Bundesliga) - Bayer Leverkusen coach Bruno Labbadia is calling on his players to take their chance to return to the top of the Bundesliga in Tuesday night's clash with Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion.A 2-0 win over Cologne on Friday saw Leverkusen move to the top of the table for 48 hours before dropping back down to second behind Hoffenheim on Sunday.
And Labbadia claims if his team harbour ambitions of sticking around at the top, they must not show any fear against a side of Bremen's stature.
"We are Bayer Leverkusen and we have the claim of wanting to win even at a leading club like Bremen,'' he said on the eve of the match.
"Bremen are a top team and it is going to be interesting and a challenge for us.''
Labbadia welcomes Renato Augusto and Tranquillo Barnetta back into his team on Wednesday, but there is still no return in sight for Bernd Schneider.
Nevertheless, Labbadia has confirmed he still considers the Germany midfielder, who has not played since suffering a slipped disc in April, part of his plans.
The 34-year-old was on Monday awarded a one-year contract extension.
"This is not just a good-will gesture, we are absolutely convinced that he will return and help us,'' Labbadia told the club's website.
"For us, it is the most normal thing in the world to show such a worthy player that we are standing by him in this situation.''
Saturday's 1-1 draw with Hannover leaves Bremen six points adrift of league leaders Hoffenheim.
Nevertheless, it was "a step in the right direction'' according to director of sport Klaus Allofs.
"I am happy that we did not lose after going behind,'' he added.
Bremen were without Tim Wiese, Per Mertesacker, Diego and Claudio Pizarro on Saturday, but Mertesacker returns from suspension on Tuesday.
Diego and Pizarro will undergo late fitness tests with both confident of returning.
