Burnley manager Owen Coyle will check on the fitness of winger Chris Eagles ahead of the crunch visit of Bristol City.
The former Manchester United man was withdrawn at half-time during last weekend's 2-2 draw at Southampton.
He had complained of feeling unwell prior to the game but should be passed fit for a game the Clarets must win to be sure of making the play-offs.
Lancashire rivals Preston lie just two points behind Burnley and boast a superior goal difference.
Striker Steven Thompson has missed the Clarets' last seven games after sustaining ankle ligament damage against Nottingham Forest on March 14.
His recovery is progressing well but and Coyle must decide whether to gamble on Thompson`s fitness and hand a place among the substitutes.
Bristol City manager Gary Johnson will welcome back defender Bradley Orr.
The right-back returns after a two-game suspension and will offer much-needed resources to Johnson's beleaguered squad.
Johnson has a host of injury absentees including Lee Trundle (ankle), Louis Carey (rib), Christian Ribeiro (knee) and James Wilson (Achilles).
Striker Trundle strained ankle ligaments while playing for the reserves and Johnson told the Bristol Evening Post: "There is no break but he will be out for two or three weeks so it will stop him from playing football on his holidays.''
However, fellow forward Dele Adebola will be in the squad even though he is likely to leave the club in the summer. Despite his team being out of contention for a top-six place, Johnson admitted City have an obligation to perform to their best in what could be a decisive game in resolving the play-off positions.
"We have got to do our job and we have got to be professional and we want to win the game for our own sake,'' Johnson added. "That's the way it should be of course but we owe it to ourselves and we owe it to the league.''
