Ayr are eyeing the chance to go five points clear when they host local rivals Brechin at Somerset on Sunday.

The game has been put back 24 hours to avoid a clash with the Ayr Gold Cup and should draw a bigger than normal crowd.

Ally Woodburn, who has been sidelined with a leg injury, played for an hour in a frinedly game against Morton at Glasgow Green on Monday evening.

Murray Henderson is training and working with the physio as he tries to shake off a back strain, while Martyn Campbell, who came off early at Stranraer with sickness, is now OK and ready to resume against Brechin.

Boss Brian Reid said: "There's nothing better than waking up the next day and seeing that Ayr are top of the table. It's a great place to be and we'll do everything we can to stay there.''g

Brechin manager Michael O'Neill wants a much improved performance from his side despite the 3-1 derby win over Arbroath last week.

City ware waiting Darren Smith's availability for the trip after he picked up a knock from a bad tackle last week.

O'Neill also stated that Calum Smith and Adam Nelson, who came on as substitutes last week, could well have played themselves into the reckoning.

He added: "Ian Nimmo was taken off because he was below par, as was Iain Diack, and the boys who came in did themselves no harm."
