Everton boss David Moyes has admitted he would one day like to manage Scotland - but when he is "a little bit older and experienced''.

Following Alex McLeish's move from national coach to the hot seat at Birmingham, Moyes has been an outsider for the post on many bookmakers' lists.

But he says it is "not for me just yet''.

Moyes takes his Everton side - unbeaten in seven games - to Portsmouth in a match which could dictate whether either club is capable of competing for a European spot.

Moyes is also hoping that his side completes qualification for the last 32 of the UEFA Cup when they face Zenit St Petersburg at Goodison Park next Wednesday.

It is that level of growing achievement that has seen Moyes' name thrown into the ring as a potential Scotland manager.

But having distanced himself from the England job last week, Moyes is now having to do the same thing with his own country.

He said: "One day I would like to manage Scotland, but not at the moment. I would want to be a little bit older and experienced.

"Anyone would want to be linked with the job as national manager, I would like the national job but it is not for me just yet.

"If I do well enough at Everton, maybe there will be an opportunity in the future but certainly not for a long period of time regarding me.

"I still feel I have only just come into management, I am still one of the youngest about. But I feel the national manager's job should be for someone a bit older and nearer the end of their time in management.

"Maybe they do not always want the day-to-day involvement, but I want that at Everton.''

All but veteran defender Alan Stubbs - out with a calf injury - are available for the clash.

Meanwhile, Sol Campbell is urging his Portsmouth team-mates to keep their eyes on the ball and not fall victim to distractions.

Campbell is finding solace for his country's lamentable Euro 2008 failure in Pompey's impressive Barclays Premier League form but warns they must stay focused for the Fratton Park battle with the Toffees.

The centre-half is concerned that loose talk touting Harry Redknapp's team as "almost certain'' qualifiers for a European place next season could lead to some people getting carried away.

And now a new spectre has raised its ugly head following manager Harry Redknapp's arrest after police raids on his home in midweek.

Redknapp, who has not been charged, called all his players and staff in on Thursday morning to reassure them and give them a "full explanation'' of the events of the past few days.

He has also declared his loyalty to the club despite a recent media campaign for him to fill the vacant England manager's job, although in the current climate this now looks to be dead in the water.

Redknapp said: "I honestly don't think England would offer it to me, but I'm happy at Pompey. Why would I go anywhere else?''

The experienced Campbell, 33, just hopes the team can follow Redknapp's advice, ignore all the hype and garner another three points to extend their record unbeaten league run to 10 matches.

He said: "I think we've got enough here to get into Europe. There are enough experienced players around the pitch and on the bench as well. So it's looking good.

"But the main thing is you've got to really remain focused and not get carried away with the situation. It's all about putting the same amount of effort into every game and then consistency will come.

"You've got to say things are looking a lot better now. And we are getting the breaks, but the squad is a lot better now and that makes the difference.

"There is a strong foundation this season but we have to take care of that, look after it, and make sure we don't get carried away because it can easily go.

"We haven't done anything or won anything yet. Nothing has actually been achieved and so we've got to really look after ourselves and approach every game the same way.''

Redknapp must decide whether to try to swamp their midfield in the 4-5-1 formation which has paid such dividends since he switched to it in mid-September or, with Kanu now available again after injury, revert to playing two up front.

Last time he did that, though, Kanu and Premier League top scorer Benjani Mwaruwari came up empty in the goalless home draw with Manchester City three weeks ago.
