MONTBELIARD, January 20 (Ligue 1) - Sochaux are fourth bottom in Ligue 1 but still have a seven-point buffer over the relegation zone as they prepare to host visitors St Etienne on Saturday.
The club is in the middle of a slump and has not tasted victory in six matches, the last success coming against Rennes on November 26.
Last time out they were on the wrong end of 3-0 scoreline at Lille while coach Dominique Bijotat has plenty of injury worries as he prepares to name his team for Saturday's match at the Stade Auguste Bonal.
Mourad Meghni is sidelined for three weeks with a strained thigh while Maxime Josse (leg muscles), Johann Lonfat (strain) and Mevlut Erding (calf) are all considered doubtful.
Jeremy Menez and Fabien Boudarene are also carrying knocks and Bijotat knows he has his work cut out if he is to keep his team well clear of the drop zone.
Sebastien Mazure is named in the St Etienne squad after his recent injury problems but Frederic Piquionne is excluded from the group for unspecified disciplinary reasons.
Fousseni Diawara is travelling to Franche-Comte but his participation is threatened by an injured tibia but Loic Perrin should play despite the Achilles tendon injury that has prevented him from training normally.
Coach Elie Baup told www.asse.fr: "Every day seems to bring us our lot in terms of problems and uncertainties.
"We will have to be very strong at Sochaux.''
St Etienne have only lost four matches this season but are in eighth place because of a tendency to draw matches - only Lens have drawn more.
