With Bayern Munich just a maximum of four points away from re-gaining the Bundesliga title, Schalke's attention will switch to protecting their position in next year's Champions League place following a shaky run of form.Ralf Rangnick's side have lost three on the bounce to put pay to any chances they had of pipping Felix Magath's side to top spot and with Stuttgart hot on their heels they will look to take nothing but three points when Bayer Leverkusen are the visitors.
The third of their losses came at Hertha Berlin last Saturday as they were thumped 4-1 and sparked Rangnick to publicly asked his side "whether they want to travel to Madrid or Liepaja next season".
The Schalke supremo assembled his players for a three-day training camp in the week at a secret destination to shift their attention to the four matches remaining.
"We'll be fully focused to defend the second place and win the German Cup against Bayern," he added.
Rangnick is boosted by the news goalkeeper Frank Rost has overcome his ankle problems, whilst Sven Vermant will shake off knee problems to feature.
Furthermore, key defender Marcelo Bordon returns to action after missing three games with a hip injury, whereas Christian Poulsen serves a one-match ban.
Thomas Klasener, Mike Hanke and Tim Hoogland are all doubtful for the clash.
Leverkusen, meanwhile, will be buoyed by their 2-1 win against fellow UEFA Cup contenders Werder Bremen which came without the services of seven first teamers, including Carsten Ramelow and Jens Nowotny.
The result served to cut the gap between themselves and a European place to just one point and with four games still to go a good run now could firmly improve their chances of qualifying.
Leverkusen will be without midfielder Robson Ponte, who is out for the rest of the season, whilst Nowotny also remains on the sidelines.
Bayer have never lost in the Arena AufSchalke, and a win could allow arch-rivals Bayern Munich to lift their 19th Bundesliga trophy in history.
"This would be my 10th championship with Munich," former Bayern player and current Leverkusen coach Klaus Augenthaler joked.
