This player started out his career at Chester-le-Street after being released by Newcastle United as a schoolboy. He moved to the Reebok Stadium in 2006 and was part of Bolton Wanderers' reserve side which won the 2006/07 league title.
The young midfielder/defender Basham made his first team debut on loan at Stafford Rangers of the Conference in November 2006 in a 2-2 draw with St Albans.
After playing for games for the club he returned to Bolton but would be loaned out again in February 2008, this time to League Two side Rochdale. Basham stayed with 'Dale for the remainder of the season, playing 13 matches.
He was handed his Trotters debut in November 2008 when replacing Johan Elmander in the 89th minute of a 4-1 win at Sunderland.
