Gary Caldwell Bio
Send To Friend
Former Newcastle United trainee Caldwell joined Celtic in the summer of 2006 after impressing in the SPL with Hibernian.
He never made a first team appearance for the Magpies, having to rely on loan spells for first team experience. He played for Darlington, Hibernian, Coventry City and Derby County.
The centre-back returned to Hibs permanently in January 2004 on a free transfer but spent just two years at Easter Road before moving to Parkhead on a Bosman. He had actually started his career as a youth with Celtic before heading to Tyneside.
After an inconsistent start to his Celtic career he came into his own in 2008-09, named the Football Writers' Player of the Year.
Caldwell is a full Scotland international and his most famous moment came as he scored the only goal of the game as Scotland defeated France 1-0 at Hampden Park in October 2006.
