Aaron Hughes Bio Send To Friend

A reliable, versatile defender with plenty of Premier League experience, Aaron Hughes was one of Lawrie Sanchez's more successful Fulham signings.

The Northern Ireland skipper linked-up with his former international manager at Fulham ahead of the 2007/08 season after he was allowed to leave Aston Villa in a £1 million deal.

He made 31 starts in a difficult season for Fulham in which the club only narrowly avoided relegation. However, despite a torrid season for the club Hughes emerged with some credit and can hold his head high after forging a solid defensive partnership with Brede Hangeland.

Hughes began his career as a trainee at Newcastle United and signed his first professional contract in March 1997. He made a total of 245 appearances and played a part in the Magpies securing Champions League football ahead of the 2002/03 season.

Hughes moved to Villa for £1 million after falling victim to Graeme Souness' reshuffle at St James' Park at the end of the 2004/05 season. He signed a three-year deal at Villa Park and went on to make 64 appearances in all competitions for the Midlands club.
