Jay Simpson Bio Send To Friend

Simpson has been part of Arsenal's youth set-up since he was aged 13 and his imposing frame and power make him a handful for defenders at any level.

The young forward excelled for the reserves by scoring six times in eight starts and also put in 23 appearances for the U-18s.

Having started as a goalkeeper, the attacker is also a youth international, having played for the England U-18 team.

In February 19, 2007 he made history by becoming the first player ever to score a hat-trick at Emirates Stadium, for Arsenal's U18 side in an FA Youth Cup match against Cardiff.

He then chose to go on loan to Millwall and won the PFA's League One player of the year award for 2008 after his initial six-month loan deal was extended.

He made his Arsenal debut in the 6-0 thrashing of Sheffield United in the Carling Cup third round and netted twice in the 3-0 win over Wigan in the same competition.

Simpson spent the second half of the 2008-09 season on loan at strugglers West Brom, making his Premier League debut in 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa. He netted just once in the league, at Hull City, and lost his place in the team towards the end of the campaign.

At the start of 2009-10 he had a host of Championship clubs wanting to sign him on loan. He opted to stay in London and sign for Queens Park Rangers.
