Adel Taarabt Bio Send To Friend

Young Frenchman Adel Taarabt sealed a loan move to Tottenham Hotspur in January 2007 and by June a permanent transfer had been agreed with Ligue 1 club Lens.

Having played only once for the Lens team, the Spurs scouts must have seen something special in training, or a reserve match, as Tottenham's Sporting Director Damien Comolli referred to him 'as one of the best talents in Europe for his age group'.

The attacking midfielder made only two subs' appearances in 2006-07 but that increased to 10 substitute appearances for the first team in 2007-08.

With an ability to play in a variety of attacking positions, Taarabt's versatility may help him win a place in the Spurs midfield, although he will have a long way to go if he is to oust Aaron Lennon from the line-up.

Taarabt has represented France as Under-16, 17 and 18 level.

But the player fell out of favour with boss Juande Ramos in 2008-09 and was not even handed a squad number until the Spanish coach was sacked at the of October and replaced by Harry Redknapp. He finally appeared on the bench over the Christmas period before appearing as an extra-time substitute in a Carling Cup tie the following month.

After three appearances as a sub, only one of those in the Premier League, before he was loaned to Queens Park Rangers in March 2009.

Although Redknapp also admits he is a very talented footballer it appears difficult to transform that into a match situation.

He returned to QPR on loan in July 2009.
