Nicky Hunt Bio
Send To Friend
Lifelong Bolton supporter Hunt made his debut for the club in a 1-1 draw at home to Sheffield United back in May 2001, coming on as a sub for the final seven minutes at the tender age of 17.
However, the right back had to wait until the 2003-04 season before he became a first-team regular.
Tipped as a star of the future injury scuppered the former England U-21 star's progress.
After suffering a broken leg against Portsmouth early in the 2005/06 season Hunt subsequently missed two months of the campaign, however once fully fit and ready to return his place in the side had been taken by Joey O'Brien.
Competition between the two gave then manager Sam Allardyce a selection headache, but towards the end of the season Hunt re-established himself as first choice.
In the 2006/07 season Hunt benefited from an injury to O'Brien and was thus a regular in the first team. Hunt showed glimpses of the form that made him one of England's most promising young defenders, but also displayed a tendency to make frustrating mistakes.
He signed a new contract in the summer of 2007 to sign up until 2011 as a Trotters player.
Hunt fell out of favour under Gary Megson in 2008/09, leading to a loan move to Championship side Birmingham City in November having not made a first team appearance at the Reebok. He made 11 appearances for Blues.
