Jussi Jaaskelainen Bio
Send To Friend
The Finnish number one is amongst the most highly regarded goalkeepers in the Premiership thanks to his commanding presence in the penalty area, his shot stopping prowess and his distribution.
Jaaskelainen is a firm favourite amongst Bolton supporters and players alike, as seen by the fact that he was voted the fans' player of the year and players' player of the year for his performances in the 2006/07 season in which the Trotters qualified for the UEFA Cup, for only the second time in the club's history.
The Finn has been part of the Bolton set-up for over 10 years (arguably the club's most successful period) after joining the club in November 1997 from VPS Vaasa for just £100,000, a fee which must be regarded as steal given how important Jaaskelainen has been for Wanderers since his arrival.
After more than 350 appearances for the club the keeper turned down the offer of a new deal ahead of the 2007/08 season, deciding to wait until he is out of contract after the season to decide on his future, which he decided still lay at the Reebok as he signed a four-year deal.
