David Dunn Bio Send To Friend

Bolton Wanderers were denied by Blackburn Rovers in the race to secure Dunn's signature in January 2007 when Birmingham City decided to jettison the injury-plagued attacking midfielder.

Dunn rejoined his home town team on a three-and-a-half year deal.

During the 2008/09 season Dunn played 25 games as Blackburn finished an impressive 7th in the Premier League. After starting the season brightly, Dunn made himself a first team regular, performing consistently and grabbed his only goal of the season against arsenal.

The one-time England international came to the public's attention in Rovers' first season back in the Premier League in 2001/02, but he actually made his debut in back September 1998 against Everton.

His performances earned him the captaincy of the England Under-21 side for the European Championships in May 2002 and the moniker 'the new Gazza' due to his skill levels and ability to make something out of nothing.

The former England youth player earned a call-up into the full England squad in September 2002 for the friendly with Portugal after Kieron Dyer was forced to withdraw through injury. He made his debut as a substitute.

After that his career took a bit of a downturn. Not only did he suffer a loss of form, he also fell out with then Rovers boss Graeme Souness who was unhappy with Dunn's alleged 'party' lifestyle.

It was only a matter of time before Dunn moved on and in the summer of 2003 he joined Birmingham City for an undisclosed fee believed the fee was in the region of £5.5million, signing a four-year contract after scoring 38 goals in 169 games with Blackburn.

After the turn of the year Dunn struggled with injury, curtailing his appearances for City. He played only once after the back-end of February as he was dogged by a hamstring injury, which flared up again after he made his comeback at Arsenal.

Birmingham saw flashes of his top form in 2003/04, but he failed to hit the heights that once pushed him into the England reckoning.

Again his 2004/05 term was hit by injuries - but by Christmas he seemed back to his old best with some superb displays.

However, his injury curse hit again in November as he pulled a hamstring and was out of action until mid-way through the 2005/06 season. With Dunn still not recovering fully from his injuries, Birmingham were relegated and in October 2006, Dunn was linked with a move back to his old club Blackburn.

Although the move was denied by all parties, Dunn played little more than a bit-part role in the 2006/07 Championship campaign, and in the January transfer window was subject to a £2.2million bid from Bolton Wanderers.

Having already passed his medical at the Reebok Stadium, Dunn turned his back on Bolton when Blackburn made it clear they would like to re-sign him.
