Amr Zaki Bio
Send To Friend
A controversial striker, Zaki was signed by Hull in January 2010 on loan, having made his bow in the Premier League with a mixed spell at Wigan.
Having started his career at Al-Mansoura Football Club in his native Egypt, he moved to ENPPI in the 2003-04 season. Showing his goalscoring promise by becoming top scorer in the league for the 2004-05 season, he also helped the club win its first trophy, the 2005 Egyptian Cup.
Impressing for Egypt at the 2006 African Nations Cup, Zaki caught the eye of Lokomotiv Moscow, who signed him for a reported $2 million. However, he did not play a single game for the club and moved back to Egypt to play for El Zamalek, where he finished the season as the club's top scorer again.
Showcasing his goalscoring skills once more, Steve Bruce was able to persuade the powerful striker to test himself in the Premier League in July 2008 and he arrived at Wigan on loan with a reputation for finding the back of the net.
Rated as FIFA's top rated striker in world, Zaki made a name for himself but then showed his darker side when, in April 2009, he failed to return from one of Egypt's World Cup qualification matches.
Bruce then labelled him as ''the most unprofessional player I have ever worked with'' and he returned to Egypt, where missed training again with Zamalek and was then dropped for the 2010 African Nations Cup by Hassan Shehata.
He then decided to return to the Premier League, this time with Hull, having snubbed a move to Portsmouth.
