Send To Friend
Shawky teamed up with fellow Egyptian Mido at Middlesbrough in 2007, for a fee of around £650,000.
A defensive midfielder, Shawky has been a regular in the Egyptian team over the last two years - helping them to win the African Cup of Nations in 2006 and 2008.
He began his career with Al-Masry before switching to Al-Ahly and gained a reputation as a tough-tackler capable of unleashing a powerful shot.
Catching the eye of the Boro scouts, Shawky made the move to the Premier League in August 2007 and came on for his debut just before Christmas at Portsmouth.
