Nacho Novo Bio
Send To Friend
A super-sub for Rangers, Novo has shown himself to be a useful addition to the squad since his arrival in July 2004.
Novo began his career in his home country of Spain with SD Huesca, but made the move to Scotland with Raith Rovers in July 2001. Scored a total of 22 goals in 38 appearances during his first season in Scotland, he immediately attracted the attention of Dundee who signed him for £100,000 in July 2002.
A passionate player, his temperament sometimes got the best of him but he continued to hit the back of the net and, after a season of 25 goals, he signed for Rangers for a reported fee of £450,000.
In his first season with the club he scored 25 goals, but injury and the pressure of playing for an Old Firm club meant he dropped down the pecking order and began to make an impact from the bench.
He won the double with Rangers in 2005, but was deployed more as a winger than a striker due to the form of Kris Boyd and he also struggled with injuries.
The arrival of Walter Smith in 2007 gave him added hope, but Novo was restricted to substitute appearances, despite signing a new contract until the summer of 2010.
The 2008-09 season saw Novo used almost exclusively as a substitute, but he picked up his second double as Rangers won more silverware at the end of the season.
