Jonas Olsson Bio
Send To Friend
Olsson joined the Baggies on the penultimate day of the 2008 August transfer window in an £800,000 move from NEC Nijmegen.
The left-sided defender penned a two-year contract after being linked with a move to the Premiership several times with Bolton Wanderers, Middlesbrough, Newcastle United and Everton.
He made his debut in professional football as part of the Landskrona BoIS squad in the 2003 season.
Two years later he was sold for 750,000 euros to Dutch side NEC Nijmegen and, although he was known for being a tough tackler, playing in Dutch football developed him as a player. A Sweden Under-20 and Under-21 international, Olsson attracted interest from England and eventually signed for the Baggies for an initial fee of £800,000 with a possible £360,000 of performance related add ons. Olsson made his first appearance, starting against West Ham United and even bagged a goal in the 1-0 win away to Middlesbrough.
