Giles Barnes Bio Send To Friend

Barnes signed for Derby County as a trainee in August 2005 and quickly became a first team member, making his debut during the 2005/06 season.

He is an exciting talent who can play anywhere across the midfield, and operate in a forward position, who has been scouted by many other clubs so it was a relief for the Rams when he signed a four-year extension to his contract in 2006.

Barnes became a regular in the side during the 2006/07 season and set up the promotion-winning goal in the Championship Play-off final.

The England U18 and U19 international was also named Derby County young player of the year for the 2006/2007 season.

He set an unenviable record in the 2007/08 Premier League season by playing 20 games for Derby without winning a single match. He was finally usurped the following campaign when Gareth Bale made it 21 at Tottenham.

Much of Barnes' career has been injury hit and 2008/09 was no different. He did not feature until December and was then ruled out for another month.

And he left Derby at the end of January 2009 by joining Fulham on loan with a view to a permanent deal. He played 95 games for the Rams, scoring 13 goals.
